However, there are plenty of activities to enjoy in various locations. We&#8217;ll provide you with tips in this post.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This post is for those who are new to V\u00e4ster\u00e5s and are looking for tips on various outdoor activities that can be enjoyed in the area, year-round!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"V\u00e4lkommen till \u00e4ventyrs\u00f6n!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mlpkWi1r090?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Right of Public Access (Allemansr\u00e4tten)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Outdoor life in Sweden is based on the Right of Public Access, which allows us to move around freely in the swedish nature. The Right of Public Access is unique to Sweden, which we are incredibly happy about. The foundation is &#8221;Do not disturb, do not destroy,&#8221; but there are some things that are good to keep in mind, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 If you&#8217;re going to make a fire, it&#8217;s best to use established fire pits. Fires should not be lit on moss, peat bogs, soil-covered forest land, or rocks. Make sure to have water nearby, prevent the fire from spreading, and take all trash with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Do not disturb residential or vacation homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 If you&#8217;re on water, you can go ashore almost anywhere, except on private property or bird protection areas. Private properties usually have signs by the water, and bird protection areas are marked on the map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Always leave your campsite as you found it or even better. All trash must be taken home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 If you&#8217;re camping, you need to check the rules for the specific area where you plan to camp. Some protected areas do not allow camping, such as Bj\u00f6rn\u00f6n, and camping is not permitted on grazing or agricultural land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Between March 1 and August 20, it&#8217;s important to keep an eye on your dogs, as many young animals are sensitive during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Right of Public Access applies to most areas, but nature reserves and national parks have their own rules that you must check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hiking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of hiking trails in the V\u00e4ster\u00e5s municipality. Here on Bj\u00f6rn\u00f6n, we have one short hiking trail, <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/vandringstips-naturstigen-pa-bjorno\/\">Naturstigen<\/a>, and also many exercise trails. Other popular hiking trails around V\u00e4ster\u00e5s include <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/vandringstips-utorundan-angso\/\">\u00c4ngs\u00f6<\/a>, Ask\u00f6viken, <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/vandringstips-frosakers-naturreservat\/\">Fr\u00f6s\u00e5ker<\/a>, G\u00e4ddeholm, Rocklunda, and Badelunda\u00e5sen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trails are generally dry and easy to hike, so a good pair of simpler hiking shoes goes a long way in V\u00e4stmanland. The longest hiking trail is Bruksleden, which start in V\u00e4ster\u00e5s, stretching 250 kilometers through V\u00e4stmanland to southern Dalarna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;re out on the trails, they are marked with orange markings on trees and sometimes with large stones. V\u00e4ster\u00e5s is located in the M\u00e4lardalen region by Lake M\u00e4laren, which offers wonderful experiences during the summer and early autumn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At our location, you can rent canoes and kayaks for durations from two hours to a whole week. Between Bj\u00f6rn\u00f6n and the mainland lies H\u00e4ssl\u00f6sundet, a roughly 4.5 km long passage that is remarkably sheltered from wind. Only smaller boats with lower speeds are allowed in this area. Many people paddle back and forth in the passage, while others choose to paddle around the island, which is approximately 11 kilometer and about 2-3 hours. <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/turtips-pa-malaren-fran-bjornogarden\/\">You can find ten different tours that you could do here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also organize guided kayaking tours and courses in English. The tour is conducted in English and provides an incredible chance to forge new friendships within V\u00e4ster\u00e5s&#8217; international community. They are very stable on flat water, but it&#8217;s important for the two paddlers to work together effectively and not venture into conditions they can&#8217;t handle. In rough conditions with wind and waves are kayaks much safer. We have both single and double kayaks available in various forms for different skill levels. If it&#8217;s your first time going out on the water, we would recommend a canoe or a double kayak, where you can have the company of someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those interested in longer overnight tours with camping, the islands <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/paddlingstips-overnattningstur-till-rido\/\">Rid\u00f6n<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/paddlingstips-overnattningstur-till-norrskar\/\">Norrsk\u00e4r<\/a>, M\u00e5holmen, and <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/paddlingstips-overnattningstur-till-aggaron\/\">Aggar\u00f6n<\/a> offer excellent options. Additionally, <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/bokning\/\">we provide rentals<\/a> for tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, and outdoor stoves for individuals who do not have their own equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important safety considerations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Never paddle alone if you lack experience in self-rescue or risk assessment. Paddling with a partner is not only considerably safer but also more enjoyable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Always inform someone about where you&#8217;re going and when you expect to return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Do not paddle in conditions you&#8217;re not comfortable with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Always wear a PFD (personal floating device)\/life jacket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us! Near our store, we have a 3 kilometer long trail called Bj\u00f6rnen, graded as a Blue route. You can also start from us and ride Lugnetslingan, a 17 km Blue route, or Dyboslingan, a 15 km Blue route, both in G\u00e4ddeholm. You can find more information about the trails on the website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trailsofvastmanland.se\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trails of V\u00e4stmanland<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At our outdoor store located at Bj\u00f6rn\u00f6g\u00e5rden, you have the option to <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/bokning\/\">rent a mountainbike<\/a> for a few hours or even multiple days, with a helmet included. We also <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/produkt-kategori\/forsaljning-2\/cykel-forsaljning-2\/\">sell brand-new mountainbikes<\/a> if you prefer to make a purchase. If you require guidance to get started, you can enroll in one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/event\/grundkurs-i-mountainbike\/\">beginner mountainbiking courses<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ice skating on lake M\u00e4laren (Nordic Skating)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During the winter, Lake M\u00e4laren freezes, providing ideal conditions for ice skating. V\u00e4ster\u00e5s stands out with its exceptional feature of having 18 kilometers of interconnected plowed tracks on the ice. When a track is plowed, it signifies that a heavy machine has been used without causing the ice to break, ensuring that it is entirely safe for skating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Bj\u00f6rn\u00f6g\u00e5rden, you can skate on our track in H\u00e4ssl\u00f6sundet to G\u00e4ddeholm (9 km round trip), or you can skate from the track to the bridge, cross the road, and then skate on V\u00e4ster\u00e5sfj\u00e4rden, which offers another 9 km of track between Lill\u00e5udden and Bj\u00f6rn\u00f6n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/israpport\/\">You can find the latest ice report with an update about the conditions here!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who are less experienced in ice skating, we suggest using ice hockey skates, while those with more experience can consider trying the longer ones called Nordic Skates (l\u00e5ngf\u00e4rdsskridskor in Swedish). Another option for ice skating is a &#8221;spark,&#8221; which is a type of sled equipped with runners. We provide rentals for all of these types of equipment at our store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/e5gp8rwuod7.exactdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/nordic-skating-on-lake-mala-1024x768.jpg?strip=all&lossy=1&ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-61704\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important safety considerations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Never go out on the ice unless you are certain it is safe. Clear ice should be at least 10 cm thick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Do not leave the plowed tracks unless you have the experience or equipment to assess the safety of the ice. The ice can be perfectly safe near the tracks, but weak and unsafe just a few hundred meters away!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Never be alone on the ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Always carry ice picks and other safety equipment on the ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Remember that new ice, ice with snow cover, slushy ice and sea ice can be weak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cross-country Skiing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can go cross-country skiing every winter here in V\u00e4ster\u00e5s. Sometimes on natural snow, but always on artificial snow. <a href=\"https:\/\/aktivtuteliv.se\/vasteras\/guide-skidspar-i-vasteras\/\">We have a guide (in swedish) with all ski tracks in the area here!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being located relatively far south, we&#8217;re fortunate to have excellent tracks for cross-country skiing. There are two artificial snow tracks in V\u00e4ster\u00e5s: Rocklunda skidsp\u00e5r and Vedbobackens skidsp\u00e5r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The track at Vedbobacken is 2,1 km long in it&#8217;s full length and goes all the way to the top of Vedbobacken. If you prefer flat terrain, you can turn around before the hill, that makes the distance 1 km. At Vedbobacken you can go skiing in the end of november. When at its longest, the artificial snow track is 2.5 km, offering moderately hilly terrain. If you&#8217;re new to skiing, you can try the flat track on Apalbyplanen. In snowy winters, longer tracks are also prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these two tracks, you can also ski on the Surahammars Golfklubb (about 5 km) in snow-rich winters or on the ice near us, where we create a ski track along the ice skating lane.
