Frequently Asked Questions About the Sauna

Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions about booking, heating the sauna, swimming and the facilities available.
How do the key and payment work?
The key is collected and payment is made at our sports and outdoor shop at Björnögården during our opening hours before your booked time slot. If you need to return the key after the shop has closed, you can leave it in the coded key box located at the back of the sauna building.
Are there showers and toilets?
There are two showers in the sauna changing room. There is no toilet in the sauna building itself. Toilets are available in the service building approximately 100 metres from the sauna.
Will the sauna be hot when we arrive?
No, the sauna is normally not heated when you arrive. As guests, you light the wood-fired sauna yourselves when your booked time slot begins, unless otherwise agreed when booking. It takes approximately 30 minutes for the sauna to heat up.
Do we need to bring our own firewood?
No, firewood is provided and included in the rental price.
Do we need to bring our own towels?
Please bring your own bath towels. Small towels for sitting on inside the sauna are provided in the changing room and are included in the price. For hygiene reasons, you must always sit on a towel inside the sauna.
Do we need to clean up afterwards?
Yes. As guests, you are responsible for leaving the sauna in good condition after your visit. Instructions are posted on the inside of the entrance door and must be followed before you leave.
Can we swim directly from the sauna?
Yes. There is a jetty with a swimming ladder just below the sauna. During winter, we also keep an ice hole open for anyone who wants to combine the sauna with a refreshing winter swim.
Can we bring our own food and drinks?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks. The relaxation room has tables and chairs as well as a small kitchenette with a sink and refrigerator. There are no glasses or tableware in the sauna, so please bring your own.
Is there a barbecue?
Yes, there is a charcoal barbecue on the veranda that you are welcome to use. Please bring your own charcoal.
How many people can the sauna accommodate?
The sauna accommodates up to approximately 16 people. The building also has a changing room, two showers and a relaxation room with tables, chairs, a refrigerator and a small kitchenette.
Do we pay per person or for the entire sauna?
The price is for the entire sauna and your booked time slot, not per person. The price is therefore the same whether you are a small or large group, up to the sauna’s maximum capacity.
Do we need to book the sauna in advance?
We recommend booking in advance, especially if you would like to use the sauna on a Friday or Saturday. These time slots are popular and often fully booked, so we recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance to be on the safe side. On weekdays, it is usually easier to be spontaneous, and sometimes it is possible to book the sauna on the same day.

Drop-In Ice Dipping & Sauna

Ice dipping has become a popular activity in Västerås, and many people are curious to give it a try. However, having to change outdoors before and after the dip can make people hesitate. That’s why we offer drop-in ice dipping sessions where our sauna building is available for showering, changing and relaxing in a peaceful environment, without having to rent the entire sauna.

Getting Here

The sauna is located below our Granbo cabin village, just beyond the grass fields after crossing the Björnö Bridge. There is a sign at the entrance. If you arrive by car, free parking is available at the cabin village. Alternatively, bus number 2, the green line, runs all the way to Björnögården, including evenings and weekends.
